About Oxford:
Ā Settled on 1500 Acres by Richard Thompson, originally from England. Ā In the 1800’s industry was farming and lumber, a theme for the area, Woolen Mills in the 1860’s and Sawmills in the 1880’s, bringing the nick name “Slabtown” to the community, during this time the real name also changed to become Oxford.
As a crossroads in the 1900’s, most traffic past through the small town, ending with the four lane highway, people passed by, a less busy and quiet community started to form.
Oxford Frozen Foods now the main employer brings another nickname to the community. Ā From Slabtown to The Bluberry Capital.
